Capsiplex Review

Capsiplex, manufactured by Advanced Health Limited, is claimed to be a diet pill used by high profile celebrities. Capsiplex includes capsicum extract (chili pepper) with a small amount of caffeine, black pepper extract (piperine) and niacin known as the Capsimax Plus formula. Capsicum is known to stimulate the appetite. It is hardly surprising, therefore, that the manufacturer of Capsiplex also sells an appetite suppressant that works in conjunction with the diet pill. A number of UK publications have picked up on the apparent effectiveness of this new weight loss pill.

Capsiplex Pros

  • Red hot chili extract, the key ingredient in Capsiplex, has been shown to boost metabolic rate in clinical trials
  • The official website provides full contact details including the name and contact address of the manufacturer – Quite rare in the diet pill industry
  • Featured in numerous prominent newspapers and online news portals as an effective slimming product

Capsiplex Cons

  • The manufacturer claims that Capsiplex can promote the burning of up to 278 extra calories. However, these are the total average calories burned before, during and after exercise. So without any exercise, it is open to question how effective Capsiplex really is
  • Some users of Capsiplex may experience side effects
  • Not many user reviews and testimonials are available online

How does Capsiplex work?

Capsaicinoids are a group of compounds which are responsible for the heat generated by hot peppers. Over the past 30 years research studies demonstrated the potential of red hot peppers and capsicum in promoting weight loss. However, to experience the full benefits of Capsicum it would be necessary to consume 10 grams on a daily basis. For most people this would cause major irritation to the gastrointestinal tract, particularly the stomach. Using a patented matrix of excipients and coatings the manufacturer of Capsiplex has produced a pill that has no adverse effects on the mouth or stomach. The outer coating has been designed to withstand the acidic PH level of the stomach and release the Capsicum extract in the intestine, where no discomfort is felt. Capsiplex breaks down in the intestines, so that there is no burning sensation when voiding.

How much weight loss with Capsiplex?

The manufacturer claims that a person with more than 14lbs to lose can expect to lose up to 4lbs in the first week, reducing to 1-2lbs a week thereafter taking the recommended dose of Capsiplex.

Capsiplex side effects

Do not take capsicum without first talking to your doctor if you are allergic to peppers (green, red, orange, yellow, chili, peppercorns, etc.). You may also be allergic to capsicum. Also consult a doctor, pharmacist or health care professional before taking capsicum if you have other allergies (especially to plants), have any medical condition, or if you take other medicines or other herbal/health supplements. Capsicum may not be recommended in some situations. Do not take capsicum without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant. It is not known whether capsicum will be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not take capsicum without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. It is not known whether capsicum will be harmful to a nursing infant. There is no information available regarding the use of capsicum by children. Do not give any herbal/health supplement to a child without first talking to the child’s doctor.

Stop taking capsicum and seek emergency medical attention if you experience symptoms of a serious allergic reaction including difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives.

Other less serious side effects have also been reported infrequently. These include upset stomach, heartburn and diarrhea.

It is potentially unsafe to take capsicum by mouth in large doses or for long periods of time. In rare cases, this can lead to more serious side effects like liver or kidney damage.

Capsiplex ingredients

Red hot chilies or capsicum extract is the principal ingredient in Capsiplex while caffeine, black pepper extract (piperine) and niacin are also present. To minimize the side effects of concentrated red hot capsicum extract, the tablet has a specially designed coating.

Looking at the ingredients in greater detail:

Capsicum Fruit Extract: Capsicum is also known as cayenne pepper, red pepper, African chilies, green pepper, tabasco pepper, paprika, pimiento, Mexican chilies, Louisiana pepper, etc. Capsicum has been used in traditional medicine as a gargle for throat irritation or infection, for stomach problems, and to protect against hardening of the arteries and heart disease. Capsicum has not been evaluated by the FDA for safety, effectiveness or purity. Capsicum contains Capsaicinoids, which are the family of compounds that cause the intense heat experienced when consuming chili peppers. Capsanicinoids help to promote thermogenesis, carbohydrate oxidation and stimulate fat oxidation. Capsanicinoids also have strong antioxidant properties. Numerous clinical trials support the effectiveness of Capsicum in promoting weight loss. However, it appears that very high doses are required for it to be effective.

Caffeine Anhydrous: This compound is incorporated into many weight loss supplements available today due to clinically proven benefits for weight loss (e.g. Am J Clin Nutr. 1989;49(1):44-50; Am J Clin Nutr. 1980;33(5):989-97). Caffeine can cause anxiety, headaches, diarrhea, insomnia and increased heart rate.

Black Pepper Extract (Piperine): This ingredient is a standardized extract from the fruit of Piper nigrum L (black pepper) or Piper longum L (long pepper). Piperine has been shown in clinical research to increase the absorption of ingredients in nutritional supplement formulations. Additional absorption, even if true, may or may not necessarily be beneficial. It is possible that the use of Piperine may increase the side effects of certain supplements due to increased absorption.

Niacin: This B vitamin plays a major role in releasing energy from carbohydrates, proteins and fats. This is the why niacin is included in some weight loss supplement formulas.

Capsiplex dosage

Capsiplex is taken once daily in the morning or for the best results 30-60 minutes before exercise. There are 30 capsules, or one months supply.

Appetite suppressant

Capsicum is known to stimulate the appetite. It is hardly surprising that the manufacturer of Capsiplex also sells an appetite suppressant that works in conjunction with the diet pill. It is claimed to reduce appetite by as much as 50%.
