Lipitrex Review

lipitrex

Lipitrex, formerly known as Advalean, is a fat burner manufactured by Progressive Health Nutraceuticals, a weight loss company founded in 1997. The manufacturer claims that Lipitrex supports four beneficial actions: appetite control; reduction of stored fat; increased metabolic rate; and enhanced energy levels. While Lipitrex might be marketed as an innovative weight loss product, it is in reality simply a compilation containing many of the ingredients commonly found in fat burners. This weigh loss product comes in the form of a capsule. There are some customer testimonials offered on the official website. Lipitrex is big on promises and claims – many that are not strongly supported by scientific studies.

Lipitrex side effects

As with many nutritional supplements there is potential for side effects. A physician should be contacted if you suffer from any pre-existing medical conditions, allergies, or if you are currently taking any medications. Lipitrex does not pose a serious health risk, although the caffeine component in the formulation could cause restlessness or jitters in sensitive individuals. Progressive Health states that there have not been any serious side effects reported from taking Lipitrex.

Looking at Lipitrexs’ ingredients in greater detail:

Green Tea Extract: A common ingredient in fat burner formulations. If there’s one beef with Lipitrex, it’s that it doesn’t contain enough green tea.

Coleus forskholii: A herb that has been demonstrated to enhance lipolysis. Many fat burners contain Coleus forskohlii as it appears to have a positive effect on cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). An increased concentration of cAMP can increase thyroid hormone (Thyroxin) levels. It may also inhibit fat storage. Thyroxin controls metabolism and can enhance metabolic rate, promoting fat loss. In an 8 week clinical study subjects taking ForsLean lost on average 9.9 lbs of body weight compared to the placebo group where only 1.1 lbs of fat was lost.

PinnoThin™ (standardized for pinolenic acid): Pinnothin is a Korean pine nut oil. It was found in a clinical study that the polyunsaturated fatty acids in the pine nut oil stimulated several appetite suppressing hormones (cholecystokinin and glucagon-like peptide 1). This led to a significantly reduced appetite among the study subjects and resulted in a significant reduction in food intake. However, caution is advised in reviewing these results. The study was conducted by Lipid Nutrition, the company which manufactures Pinnothin. When a company has a vested interest in the sale of a product, the company’s ability to be completely impartial has to be questioned when it comes to reporting the study results. More recently, an independent clinical study has been carried out on Korean pine nut oil (Lipids Health Dis. 2008; 7(1): 6). It was found that 2 grams of pine nut oil taken 30 minutes before a buffet lunch reduced food intake by 9% and energy intake by 7% (50 calories). Thus, the findings of the study indicated that the effects of this oil on weight loss would be minimal.

CLA (conjugated linoleic acid): A non-essential fatty acid. Research indicates that CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) suppresses the enzyme that promotes the storage of body fat, when taken at doses from 1 to 4.5 grams daily (Am J Clin Nutr 2007; 85(5):1203-1211). A full daily dose of Lipitrex contains 1.5 grams of CLA.

Citrus aurantium: It is considered as a safe alternative to the now banned Ephedra and is believed to promote thermogenesis. However, there there is not a great deal of evidence to indicate this is the case. There are studies that indicate that Citrus aurantium can elevate blood pressure and heart rate (e.g. Ann. Pharmacother 2006; 40(1):53-57).

Guarana (standardized for caffeine): An established thermogenic with clinically demonstrated benefits for weight loss (e.g. Am J Clin Nutr 1989; 49(1):44-50, Am J Clin Nutr 1980; 33(5):989-997), although some data indicates it offers greater benefits to lean individuals that those who are overweight (Am J Physiol 1995; 269(4 Pt 1):E671-8). Guarana also provides an energy boost. For this reason, it is also added to many fat burners and performance drinks.

Magnesium and chromium: Magnesium offers numerous health benefits, but none specifically related to weight loss. Chromium plays a key role in insulin function, helping it regulate blood sugar levels. Chromium is also involved in the processes of carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism. Its inclusion in any weight loss formulation is beneficial. However, the clinical studies that have been carried out on chromium have been inconclusive; some demonstrating that it had a subtle effect on weight loss and others showing it had no effect at all.
