Lipo-6 is a weight loss supplement manufactured by Nutrex Research and supplied in the form of liquid capsules. It can be used by both men and women. Lipo-6 is a stimulant heavy pill and side effects have been reported by numerous users. Like many other diet pills, Lipo-6 claims to boost energy levels, increase metabolism and burn fat, in addition to curbing appetite. Lipo-6 supposedly targets specific areas of the body such as the thighs, buttocks, stomach and the love handle area.
How does Lipo-6 work?
Lipo-6 is a fat-burner that utilizes maximum strength liquid capsules for superior absorption. Lipo-6 side effects
Lipo-6 has a relatively high content of the stimulants caffeine, Yohimbe and Synephrine. Side effects that have been reported include: Dizziness, headache, insomnia, anxiety, diarrhea, increased heart rate, cold sweats, shortness of breath, cough and itchy skin.
Lipo-6 ingredients
The active ingredients in two capsules (one serving) of Lipo-6 are Synephrine HCL (20 mg), Guggulsterones E and Z (20 mg), Yohimbine HCL (3 mg), Bioperine (5 mg) and caffeine (200 mg). The other ingredients in Lipo-6 are Oleic Acid, Gelatin and Sesame Oil.
Synephrine HCL: Synephrine is extracted from the Citrus aurantium plant used as a remedy for a variety of disease indications in traditional Chinese medicine. Research indicates that Citrus aurantium can help burn fat, suppress appetite and increase energy. However, clinical studies have revealed that Citrus aurantium promotes a relatively modest increase in thermogenesis. Although found in many fat burners, there is no convincing evidence that synephrine, when used alone, is effective for weight loss. There is some evidence showing positive weight loss effects, but only when Synephrine is used in combination with caffeine and St. John’s Wort.
Caffeine: A well known thermogenic compound with clinically demonstrated benefits for weight loss (e.g. Am J Clin Nutr. 1989;49(1):44-50; Am J Clin Nutr. 1980;33(5):989-97), although there are indications that it offers greater benefits to leaner individuals (Am J Physiol. 1995;269(4 Pt 1):E671-8).
GuggulEZ100: This ingredient is a patented extract of Commiphora mukul, a tree native to India. Other common names are Gugalipids and Guggul. In India Guggul is taken to help reduce blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It can help maintain a healthy balance of HDL, the good cholesterol, relative to LDL, the bad cholesterol (the HDL/LDL ratio), thereby protecting against cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis. There is some clinical data suggesting that Guggul may boost fat burning (see J Postgrad Med. 1995; 41(1): 5-7) by stimulating the secretion of the thyroid T3 hormone.
Bioperine: This ingredient is a standardized extract from the fruit of Piper nigrum L (black pepper) or Piper longum L (long pepper). Bioperine contains 95 percent piperine and has been demonstrated in clinical trials to increase the absorption of compounds in nutritional supplement formulations. It is possible that the use of Bioperine may magnify the side effects of certain supplements due to increased absorption.
Yohimbe: This is a tree bark containing a variety of pharmacologically active chemicals and is often used as an aphrodisiac. A number of studies support Yohimbe’s positive effect on weight loss (e.g. Isr J Med SCI 1991. 27(10):550-6). However, its effects are not dramatic. Serious side effects associated with products containing Yohimbe have been reported to the FDA, including renal failure, seizures and death. The major alkaloid in Yohimbe is Yohimbine, a chemical that induces vasodilation, thereby lowering blood pressure. Yohimbine is also used as a prescription drug in the United States. Additional side effects may include central nervous system stimulation that causes anxiety attacks.
Lipo-6 dosage
Lipo-6 comes in two sizes, a 120 capsule and a 240 capsule bottle. The 120 capsule bottle will last the average individual about 30 days, whereas the 240 will last about 60 days. The recommended dosage of Lipo-6 is four liquid capsules per day (two taken 30 minutes prior to breakfast and two in the afternoon). The manufacturer recommends that Lipo-6 should be taken progressively to assess tolerance. For days 1-2, take one capsule in the morning about 30 minutes before breakfast and again about 6 hours later before a meal. On days 3-4 the dose should be increased to two capsules in the morning and one capsule in the afternoon. On days 5 and onwards the maximum dose of two capsules in the morning and two more in the afternoon should be taken. Lipo-6 should be used in 8 week cycles with a 1 week break in between.
Lipo-6 conclusion
Although Lipo-6 no longer contains ephedra it remains a stimulant heavy diet pill. If sensitive to stimulants, this is a weight loss product best avoided. However, there are many positive testimonials from people that have lost weight using Lipo-6, particularly those following sensible diet and exercise routines.
