OxyElite Pro Review

USP Labs OxyELITE Pro is a stimulant heavy fat burning diet pill claimed to sustain a positive mood, suppress appetite and boost thermogenisis. Although the manufacturer indicates that OxyELITE Pro has been scientifically reviewed no evidence that the diet pill itself has been evaluated, such as findings from clinical or scientific studies, is presented on the official website. OxyELITE Pro has been formulated to target the alpha-2 receptor in the body which is believed to promote the storage of body fat in areas such as the abominals and obliques, side of the chest, thighs and buttocks. As the proportion of each ingredient in OxyELITE Pro is not disclosed, it is difficult to assess if they are present in the required dosages to promote optimal weight loss. This diet pill should not be taken for longer than eight weeks in a single cycle, and should not be mixed with prescription medications.

How does OxyELITE Pro work?

The OxyElite Pro formulation includes Bauhinia purpurea L (increases calorie burning), Bacopa monniera (supports healthy thyroid functioning), Dimethylamylamine (a CNS stimulant) and Cirsium oligophyllum (helps reduce body fat).

Due to various factors (e.g., stress, dieting, overtraining), many individuals may have impaired conversion of the thyroid hormone T4 to T3. In healthy adult animal models, an extract from Bauhinia purpurea has been suggested to increase the conversion of T3 and T4. Increased levels of thyroid hormone are believed to sensitize or increase the lipolytic effects of adrenergic stimulation in fat cells. The alpha-2 receptor is responsible for inhibiting lipolysis, or fat breakdown. Rauwolfia canescens (Rauwolscine) has been suggested to block the alpha-2 receptor. Bacopa monnieri has also been found in an animal study to promote thyroid hormone production. In this case the plant extract directly stimulates the release of T4 from the thyroid gland.

OxyELITE Pro side effects

As indicated by the manufacturer, it is not advisable to exceed the recommended dose of OxyElite Pro. DMAA is a powerful stimulant. Individuals new to stimulant-based fat burners, sensitive to caffeine and other stimulants, or with health problems should consider avoiding this product.

General side effects from OxyElite Pro are in no small part associated with the caffeine in the formulation. These side effects can include queasiness, dizziness, nausea, restlessness, nervousness, insomnia or irritability. There appear to be some gender specific side effects. Some men have reported erection issues and women have been known to have hot flashes.

OxyElite Pro ingredients

A single dose/capsule contains 219.5 mg of ingredients. The ingredients are a proprietary blend of the following: Bauhinia purpurea L. (standardized for Bauhnia-Statins 1-4), Bacopa monniera (leaf), 1,3-Dimethylamylamine (Geranium stem), Cirsium oligophyllum (whole plant extract), and Rauwolscine (Rauvolfia canescens L.). Other Ingredients: modified starch, gelatin, vegetable stearate, silicon dioxide, Red 3, Blue 1, Red 40, titanium dioxide color.

Looking at the ingredients in greater detail:

Caffeine: A recognized fat burner with clinically proven modest benefits for weight loss (e.g. Am J Clin Nutr. 1989;49(1):44-50; Am J Clin Nutr. 1980;33(5):989-97), although there are indications that it offers greater benefits to leaner individuals (Am J Physiol. 1995;269(4 Pt 1):E671-678). Caffeine can also enhance exercise performance.

Bauhinia purpurea: A shrub that is commonly grown in Asia and employed extensively in Ayurvedic medicine. Bauhinia purpurea has been used traditionally to treat ailments such as sores, wounds and diarrhea. The chloroform extract of Bauhinia purpurea contains bioactive compounds with potential peripheral and central antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities. Animal studies suggest that Bauhinia helps maintain thyroid hormone levels. However, no similar clinical studies involving Bauhinia have been carried out.

Bacopa monniera: This herb is used to enhance focus and concentration. It is included in the OxyElite Pro formulation for its supposed thyroid regulating effects (J Ethnopharmacol. 2002;81(2):281-285). However, at present only animal data is available and no clinical studies have been conducted. Unfortunately, the amount of Bacopa monniera in the OxyElite Pro formulation is far lower than that used in animals calling in to question its potency and effectiveness.

1,3-Dimethylpentylamine Hydrochloride: This ingredient is also known as Geranium extract, 1-3 Dimethylamlyamine and DMAA. It functions as a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant. It was originally developed by Eli Lilly as a nasal decongestant in 1944, and re-launched as a dietary supplement (Geranamineā„¢) by Proviant Technologies. Although there are currently no clinical studies to support the weight loss enhancing claims being made by the manufacturer, it is quite possible that as a CNS stimulant, it does promote fat burning. Geranium extract is a very potent stimulant, and depending on the concentration present (unfortunately not revealed) may provide a very powerful energy boost, especially when combined with caffeine, as it is in the OxyElite Pro formulation. Individuals sensitive to stimulants or with underlying medical conditions such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, etc should consult a medical practitioner before considering this weight loss pill.

Cirsium oligophyllum: Use of this plant in the OxyElite Pro formulation is based on an animal study (Int J Biol Sci 2009;5(4):311-318) which suggested that the extract could reduce bodyweight and fat mass, and appeared to specifically target subcutaneous fat mass rather than visceral fat mass. However, there is no clinical data to indicate that a similar effect occurs in man.

Rauwolscine: This ingredient is also known as yohimbine or corynanthidine, a yohimbine alkaloid that can act as an alpha 2-adrenoceptor antagonist. According to the manufacturer of OxyElite Pro, this compound is considerably more effective than yohimbe as a weight loss agent. Again, there is no clinical data to confirm their conclusions.

OxyElite Pro guarantee

There does not appear to be any money-back guarantee offered with this weight loss pill.

OxyELITE Pro dosage

A single capsule of OxyElite Pro represents a single serving, and there are 90 capsules in each container.

OxyELITE Pro conclusion

OxyELITE Pro could be considered a speculative diet pill in that the formulation contains a limited number of clinically proven weight loss ingredients. However, the combination of caffeine, DMAA and rauwolscine will deliver a serious energy surge. Diet pill users with a high tolerance for stimulants that take fat burners for an energy jolt will most probably benefit from taking OxyELITE Pro. It is available in stores and online. Individuals sensitive to stimulants, with health problems and/or under medication should seek medical advice before considering OxyELITE Pro.
