OxyElite Pro ingredients
A single dose/capsule contains 219.5 mg of ingredients. The ingredients are a proprietary blend of the following: Bauhinia purpurea L., Bacopa monniera, 1,3-Dimethylamylamine, Cirsium oligophyllum and Rauwolscine (Rauvolfia canescens L.). Other Ingredients are modified starch, gelatin, vegetable stearate, silicon dioxide, Red 3, Blue 1, Red 40 and titanium dioxide color.
Looking at the ingredients in greater detail:
Caffeine: This compound is incorporated into many weight loss supplements available today. Caffeine can cause anxiety, jitters, headaches, diarrhea, insomnia and increased heart rate.
Bauhinia purpurea: A shrub that is commonly grown in Asia and employed extensively in Ayurvedic medicine. Animal studies suggest that Bauhinia helps maintain thyroid hormone levels. However, no similar clinical studies involving Bauhinia have been carried out.
Bacopa monniera: This herb is used to enhance focus and concentration. It is included in the OxyElite Pro formulation for its supposed thyroid regulating effects (J Ethnopharmacol. 2002;81(2):281-285). One study reported cases of dry mouth, nausea and muscle fatigue in volunteers who ingested Bacopa (Psychopharmacology. 2001;156:481-484).
1,3-Dimethylpentylamine Hydrochloride: This ingredient is also known as Geranium extract, 1-3 Dimethylamlyamine and DMAA. It functions as a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant. Although there are currently no clinical studies to support the weight loss enhancing claims being made by the manufacturer, it is quite possible that as a CNS stimulant, it does promote fat burning. Geranium extract is a very potent stimulant, and depending on the concentration present (unfortunately not revealed) may provide a very powerful energy boost, especially when combined with caffeine, as it is in the OxyElite Pro formulation. Individuals sensitive to stimulants or with underlying medical conditions such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, etc should consult a medical practitioner before considering taking geranium.
Cirsium oligophyllum: Use of this plant in the OxyElite Pro formulation is based on an animal study (Int J Biol Sci 2009;5(4):311-318) which suggested that the extract could reduce bodyweight and fat mass, and appeared to specifically target subcutaneous fat mass rather than visceral fat mass. However, there is no clinical data to indicate that a similar effect occurs in man.
Rauwolscine: This ingredient is also known as alpha-yohimbine or corynanthidine, a yohimbine alkaloid that can act as an alpha 2-adrenoceptor antagonist. Alpha-yohimbine is a steroisomer of yohimbine. It may cause less side effects than yohimbine — less tachycardia, blood pressure elevation and anxiety.
