Phen375 Review

Phen375 (Phentemine 375) is being marketed as a leading replacement for Phentermine. Only one letter differentiates the Phentemine 375 weight loss supplement from the popular prescription drug, Phentermine. It thus appears the manufacturer may be trying to use Phentermine’s popularity to sell their product. The manufacturers state that Phen375 is made up of a synthetic fat burning formula which has helped many ordinary people lose 3 – 5 pounds per week. However, Phen373 is a propriety blend. Are there high enough doses of the active ingredients for optimal weight loss effectiveness?

Phen375 pros

  • Phen375 is a propriety blend. Are there high enough doses of the active ingredients for optimal weight loss effectiveness?
  • Phen375 contains caffeine
  • Some users, particularly those sensitive to stimulants, could experience side effects using Phen375
  • The FAQ section on the website in relation to the product itself is very limited
  • Phen375 is relatively expensive

Side effects of Phen375

Stimulants contained in Phen375 to boost metabolic rate may also increase heart rate. Some additional possible side effects that could be experienced include dizziness and changes in stool consistency.

Phen375 ingredients

The manufacturer of Phen375 does reveal its ingredients, but not the amounts present in the formulation, which makes it impossible to assess their efficacy. The ingredients are:

1,3,7-Trimethylxanthine: This is nothing other than caffeine, the most common ingredient in over the counter fat burners and weight loss products. Caffeine is a recognized fatburner with clinically proven benefits for weight loss (e.g. Am J Clin Nutr. 1989;49(1):44-50; Am J Clin Nutr. 1980;33(5):989-97), although there are indications that it offers greater benefits to leaner individuals (Am J Physiol. 1995;269(4 Pt 1):E671-678). Its overall effects are modest.

1,3-Dimethylpentylamine hydrochloride: This ingredient is also known as Geranium extract, 1-3 Dimethylamlyamine and DMAA. It functions as a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant. It was originally developed by Eli Lilly as a nasal decongestant in 1944, and re-launched as a dietary supplement (Geranamine™) by Proviant Technologies. Although there are currently no clinical studies to support the weight loss enhancing claims being made by the manufacturer, it is quite possible that as a CNS stimulant, it does promote fatburning. Geranium extract is a very potent stimulant, and depending on the concentration present (unfortunately not revealed) may provide a very powerful energy boost, especially when combined with caffeine, as is the case in the Phen375 formulation. Individuals sensitive to stimulants or with underlying medical conditions such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, etc should consider consulting a medical practitioner before taking this weight loss pill.

Dehydroepiandrosterone: This compound is commonly called DHEA. In the promotion of weight loss, DHEA does not appear to be particularly effective. However, its metabolite, 7-keto DHEA, does have some clinical data validating its effectiveness. This compound would appear to have been a more credible addition to the Phen375 formula.

L-Carnitine: An ingredient commonly found in weight loss pills. Carnitine plays an important role at the cellular level in the metabolism of fatty acids to provide energy. Studies to date have not convincingly demonstrated that carnitine supplementation can significantly boost calorie burn. Most fat burners contain far lower levels of carnitine than the 2-6 grams daily that have been evaluated in clinical studies, and Phen375 is likely to be no exception.

How much weight loss with Phen375?

It is claimed on the Phen375 official website that the average weight loss is 3-5 lbs a week. However no clinical study evidence is provided to back this claim up.

Phen375 conclusion

The manufacturer of Phen375 does reveal its composition, so that it is possible to research the ingredients. However, the quantities of the ingredients contained in the Phen375 formulation are not listed. It is therefore impossible to evaluate if there are sufficient concentrations of any of the ingredients to be effective as a diet pill at the recommended daily dose. In addition, there is nothing particularly innovative about the Phen375 formulation, and thus the product appears expensive for what it is. No scientific or clinical studies on the product itself are presented in support of the weight loss claims.
