The manufacturer of Veloxium states that it is possible to lose weight in a three-step process using their diet pill. They claim that Veloxium is the only weight loss supplement to take advantage of the body’s natural ability to incinerate unwanted fat. Given the vast number of fat burning diet pills on the market, some of which actually work, this claim is nothing short of ludicrous. The official website reveals only two of the ingredients in the Veloxium formulation, green tea and Hoodia. There are more than 300 products claiming to contain Hoodia gordonii that are being sold worldwide. A review of Hoodia products by Alkemists Pharmaceuticals found that at least half of them did not incorporate Hoodia gordonii. A CITES certificate is not displayed on the official Veloxium website – a serious cause for concern.
How does Veloxium work?
It is difficult to assess the effectiveness of Veloxium because it is a propriety blend and only two of its ingredients are disclosed, green tea and Hoodia. While green tea has been shown in clinical studies to have mild thermogenic properties, Hoodia is a highly controversial addition to the formulation. Only genuine and certified Hoodia gordonii has been demonstrated to suppress appetite.

Veloxium ingredients
Green tea: There is some evidence that green tea offers benefits to dieters. Most studies have demonstrated that it is one essential catechin, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), working in combination with caffeine that provides the weight loss benefits. Unfortunately, the manufacturer of Veloxium does not reveal what their green tea is standardized for, so it is impossible to assess the value it adds to the formulation. Green tea may also slow the increase in blood sugar following a meal. It does this by inhibiting the action of a digestive enzyme amylase. This enzyme is responsible for the breakdown of carbohydrates, which can cause blood sugar levels to increase following a meal. Green tea has been reported to promote weight loss by increasing the metabolic rate, boosting calorie burn (e.g. American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 2005; 81(1): 122-129).
Hoodia gordonii: The concentration of this ingredient is not given by the manufacturers. Both animal and human studies indicate that Hoodia gordonii can function as an effective appetite suppressant if used appropriately. The hypothalamus, which is located in the midbrain, has nerve cells that detect glucose. When food is consumed blood glucose levels increase, and the hypothalamus is activated, informing the brain that the stomach is full. The P57 molecule contained in Hoodia is about 10,000 times more effective than glucose in stimulating these nerve cells. The overall effect is to fool the brain into thinking that the stomach is full, thus suppressing the appetite.
Authentication of Hoodia products
Hoodia gordonii is a species that could come under threat if supplies are not closely monitored. It is listed under CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) and it is illegal to export the plant from Africa without a CITES certificate.
In the USA, the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and United States Customs and Border Protection regulate the importation and re-exportation of species such as Hoodia gordonii. Current U.S. laws stipulate that not only must a CITES certificate accompany shipments of Hoodia gordonii, but that the importers must possess a permit issued by the USDA to import Terrestrial Plants.
A CITES certificate is not displayed on the official Veloxium website – a serious cause for concern.
In addition to CITES and USDA certificates a consumer should look for a report from an independent testing laboratory verifying the presence of Hoodia gordonii.
Veloxium guarantee
Veloxium is guaranteed but the guarantee is not that impressive. Unused Veloxium pills must be returned within 30 days of purchase. So, taking into account delivery and return times there is only a short time in which to evaluate Veloxium without losing the guarantee.
Veloxium conclusion
Veloxium appears to offers the benefits of green tea, but no additional ingredients are disclosed other than Hoodia. In addition, the quantities of the ingredients contained in the Veloxium formulation are not listed on the website. It is therefore impossible to evaluate if there are sufficient concentrations of any of the ingredients to be effective as a diet pill at the recommended daily dose. Additionally, the quality of the Hoodia in Veloxium is not supported by CITES and USDA certificates, or a report from an independent testing laboratory verifying the presence of genuine Hoodia gordonii. The manufacturer claims that Veloxium™ requires very little proactive involvement from the dieter. – a claim that is not backed up by any clinical data.
